Fall 2007 Semester Report

Concerns in motion

More bike racks are needed on campus

Would like fitted hats sold in the bookstore

Have a “RED BOX” video rental on campus

The fitness center needs to be renovated

There should be some sort of reservation system for the team study rooms

in the library and the rooms should not be occupied by one individual only.

The stamp required for all fliers to be posted in the Residential Halls should

be made available to student center managers so that it is more convenient

for students to get their fliers stamped.

Coffee vending machines like the one in the School of Business should be

placed in all the academic buildings

Students should be allowed to park in the parking lot behind Tator Hall.

Café Q closes too early

Chartwells has tried to keep the café open late, but there is not enough business to support it. However, Starbucks is kept open until 12am Sun-Thursday for late night studying.

Bobcat  Den closes too early

Has been kept open until 1am in the past, but there was not enough business to support staying open later.

Students off campus do not have access to the library references online

Students off campus actually do have the ability to access the library references on-line by clicking on Arnold Bernhard Library link on My Q, then selecting FAQ and you will find directions on how to access the library references from off campus.

Technology/Histen

Expanding library printer systems to academic buildings

Conversation has been conducted on this topic. They are looking into adding more printers to the new North Haven campus as well as the law library. However, there are things that need to be worked out. Changes probably won’t be seen for about a year.

Technology/Histen

Volleyball court net is falling apart  and needs to be replaced

A new net was shipped and installed per Keith Woodward

Athletics/Barczak

Would like a Badminton court added

Per Linda Wooster, the problem arises because the gym was remade and there are no slots for badminton net to be set up. However, this will continue to be worked on.

Athletics/Barczak

More paper towels required in bathrooms

Paper towels are refilled regularly in academic buildings and in freshmen dorms. Upperclassman dorms do not have paper towels. If there is a specific location that requires them, let Keith Woodward know.

Facilities/Harrell

More Washers and dryers are needed in the dorms

There is not enough physical space for bigger washer and dryers or additional ones. However, Keith Woodward will look into obtaining better ones for older dorms and looking proactively for the newer dorms.

Facilities/Harrell

MTV common area needs AC and trash bins

Students are responsible for buying their own trash bins for the common rooms and having AC in the common rooms is not in the budget for the university.

Facilities/Harrell

The water heaters in village are not consistent

This has been fixed.

Facilities/Harrell

The heat in village is blasting at night- it gets too hot

The heat gets lowered in the academic buildings at night. However in the dorms, it depends on a sensor that is placed throughout a block of rooms. The heater is set to stay at 73 degrees but if there is a window open the heater will work harder to pump more heat, etc.

Facilities/Harrell

Lights are needed near Alumni House

The lights were added.

Facilities/Harrell

Librarians are loud near the computer area

There is an understanding that that area is used for conversation. Students who feel that librarians are too loud should approach them or see the director of the library.

Library Services/Kline

Not enough commuter parking

A count is kept on the total number of cars entering North lot. Once north lot is filled, a sign is put up outside to use Hogan. Once Hogan is down to 60 spaces the visitor lot is radioed and when Hogan reaches 30 spots then students are allowed to park in the visitor lot/lawn. They make sure every spot is filled before parking students on the lawn. This is the best system to ensure efficient parking. There are currently no future plans in the works for adding additional parking.

Parking/Guiot

Commuter Parking during the winter- how can we park on the lawn if there is snow

In the past, if there is no other option, the lawn will be plowed and crushed rock will be placed on the lawn until the spring. This is a last resort but would be done if it is necessary.

Parking/Guiot

Why are students who live on campus not allowed to park in North Lot on the weekends?

The whitney/westwood lots are 25% empty on the weekends and many of those cars were parking in North lot. This posed a problem because when events are held on campus (which some events can bring 200-300 people) visitors can only be parked in North lot. There is nowhere else to put them whereas students have their designated parking assignment.  Therefore, the only way to ensure that there will be enough parking is to not allow any student who lives on campus to park in North lot.

Parking/Guiot

Students who have clinical should be allowed to get their car the night before and park in North lot.

The shuttles begin to run at 6:30 am. If you have clinical before then, you should be contacting Ron Colavolpe who can issue you temporary parking passes for the days of clinical so that you can have you car for the morning.

Parking/Guiot

A structure should be built for the bus stop on New Rd.

Quinnipiac cannot build a structure for the shuttle stop because the stop is not on Quinnipiac property. If the shuttle stop becomes heavily used and a greater need is expressed, Quinnipiac can look into contact the town regarding the issue.

Parking/Guiot

Why are students allowed to move in at 12pm but are not allowed to park their cars in hilltop until 7pm that evening and have to park them in North lot in the meantime?

This is because those students who move in early in the day would naturally park in the first few rows and so, to ensure that those spaces close to the villages remain accessible for all students to unpack, everyone will have to park in North lot. Students can go to hill top to unload, just can’t stay parked there.

Parking/Guiot

The shuttles to Whitney and Westwoods are inefficient.

There is no way to control the time it takes to get to the lots due to traffic, etc. However, security is aware of the shuttles route and if the shuttles seem to be right behind one another, one will wait at the stop on campus for a few minutes to let the other shuttle get ahead. They cannot do one shuttle for Whitney and the other for Westwoods because the Whitney shuttle would then have to stop at New Rd and Whitney Village and Whitney lot is also farther.

Parking/Guiot

There is no way to go to a hospital without taking a cab from a shuttle drop-off.

The health center offers vans (via scheduling appt) that can drive students to the hospital. Quinnipiac cannot start customizing shuttle stops otherwise, everyone will be expecting it.

Parking/Guiot

Students should be allowed to drop off their friends at their dorm at night/bad weather.

Students who live on campus can go down bobcat way during the day to unload groceries/drop off friends. However, once the evening hits no students are allowed to drive down bobcat way because it is a safety concern for students. Commuter students are not allowed down Bobcat way at all and therefore have to drop anyone off at the shuttle stop in South lot.

Parking/Guiot

There are too many handicap spots in the carpool lot.

State law requires there be a certain number of handicap spots for every X number of parking spots on campus. We have no handicap spots in Whitney lot or Westwoods for example, so we need to compensate for the handicap spots somewhere else.
